You all know how passionate I am about this cause so I tried to center all my projects around the actual pink ribbon symbol. My first project is jewelry. I'm only giving you a sneak peek though! Project for the Cure Event

Happy Monday! This week the DT team at Angela Holt Designs/ The Bling Chronicles is hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Event. Yes, we Know BCA month is October but....we wanted to get a jump start and culminate the event with an auction of all the gorgeous projects form the team members on Friday. All proceeds will be taken directly to the Scott & White Cancer Institute by me! I'm the host for the auction since this break through research center is located in my home town.

We are a group of mostly women crafters and so many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Breast cancer is an increasingly prolific disease but the cure is coming! We here at Angela Holt Designs believe this and want to help make it a reality. 

Did you know…
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.
The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the

United States for 2013 are:
About 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.

About 64,640 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).

About 39,620 women will die from breast cancer
After increasing for more than 2 decades, female breast cancer incidence rates began decreasing in 2000, then dropped by about 7% from 2002 to 2003. This large decrease was thought to be due to the decline in use of hormone therapy after menopause that occurred after the results of the Women's Health Initiative were published in 2002. This study linked the use of hormone therapy to an increased risk of breast cancer and heart diseases. Incidence rates have been stable in recent years.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 36 (about 3%). Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1989, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.

At this time there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Dr. Alexzander Asea developed NamPEVA.
In pre-clinical tests, the drug killed cancer cells without attacking the body.
It also trains the body to keep killing them after treatment.

With that in mind, Angela Holt and several of the Design Team members have decided to present an auction on the final day of our Breast Cancer Awareness week. The auction will be held on the event page and you can bid through the comment area under the auction item(s). The auction will begin at 9:00am CST and end at 5:0opm CST. All proceeds will be donated to Dr. Asea personally by Deb Ochs-LaGrone who lives in Temple, TX where Scott and White’s Cancer Institute is located. It will be well documented and pictures taken so you can be assured that your money WILL go for his research.

On our FB fan page we have 557 members as of today. That means that of those fans, 70 of us will develop this horrible disease. Won’t you PLEASE join us for an auction that will benefit those that develop it and the world as a whole? It takes small steps to get there and we aim to be part of that!

What All The Cool Witches Are Wearing This Season

About a month ago, we had no bake cheesecake. You know the kind that you use the graham cracker crust, put the filling in, chill in the fridge and then add a fruit topping. Well after we finished, I looked at the pan and all I could see was a dress. So that was the start of my newest project. I must admit using the pan was a bit trickier than my minds eye thought it would be but in the end I made it work and I love the results. I'm loading up all my projects over at the Bling Chronicles so come over and play!

Supplies:

1 paper dress form from Michael's
1 tin pie plate
about a yard of orange with spiders wired ribbon - found at the Dollar Tree
6" of white with spiders wired ribbon - Dollar Tree
1/2 a yard or so of tulle
13 black marabou feathers
6 plastic spider rings with the ring part cut off
black paper cone - made with shiny DCWV paper
18" of rhinestone ribbon - Angela Holt
2 pieces of Bling - Angela Holt
Purple, black and orange paint
a pair of doll shoes
orange glitter
black and white glitter
purple glitter
an empty ribbon spool
an empty prescription bottle

All in all a pretty simple project with some recycling thrown in. Love it! Every witch who doesn't have this will be jealous this year!

Envelope Heaven!

If you haven't heard of Kreate-a-Lope then read carefully, you won't want to miss what I'm about to tell you. NEVER buy another envelope again. Yep that's right! Get rid of that expense once and for all. Instead make your own.

The owner,Nick Romer, of Kreate-a-Lope contacted me recently and asked me if I would be interested in doing a review for him. I had heard of the template but never actually tried it myself so after a couple of emails back and forth he sent me some samples to try. While I was waiting for them to get here I watched his video over on his Kickstart Campaign on how to create them and thought to myself, no way can these work this easily.




When they arrived I played with them and guess what! They really are that easy. If you don't mind a bit of a tattered edge that is. Depending on your project that could be a really cool look. But alas, you all know that I'm a perfectionist so tearing is NOT going to be what I do for envelopes most of the time.

Next I tried using an exacto knife and PRESTO! I had fabulous envelopes made in less that 2 minutes. I ADORE these things. He only sent me two templates and some lick and stick to try out. I'm hooked! I have to have more! This was the easiest template I've ever used so I'll be helping him with his Kickstart Campaign and I'll be ordering from his website. He was super nice in his emails and I'm always willing to support a homegrown crafter get their business growing (not to mention he's a father of two adorable kids).

The Kickstart Campaign only lasts until Thursday Sept. 19th so hurry and go check it out. If you help fund his campaign he'll send you some templates. DT Collaboration Projects

It's Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious? This little tag I'm showing today is all about evil...in a shabby, funny kind of way LOL. She's not really evil but I had to say SOMETHING about the date hehehe!

So my DT mates and I were paired up over on the BLING CHRONICLES for a project this month. As pairs we could chose together what we wanted to work with or do as a project type and then we were to both take our own view of it and make something. My partner was the fabulous Nicky Wilcox of Lady Jasmine's Crafts. Together we decided to do a tag with the dimensions of 4x6" and use an image of a gorgeous woman which you'll see featured on both our projects.

For my project, I cheated just a smidge! I couldn't make the 6" length work with the owl that I wanted to use so I increased my tag to 4x7" (I know, I know, I'm just not a follow directions kinda person!) Since It was for Friday the 13th and I wanted to use the owl, I decided my gorgeous gal had to become a gorgeous witch. So I printed her on light green paper to give her a tinge of greenish skin. I debated about layering paper on the black tag before attaching her but in the end I decided simple was better so the focus remained on all the embellishments. So here she is in all her witchy wickedness...

See the hat? That's made out of a pie tin. I cut the edge and then cut a triangle out of the center, glued it back together then painted it gold and sprayed it with TH Lettuce to give it that hint of green again. Here's a close up.

Sneak Peek of Another Etchall Project

I am so in love with Etchall. It's easy to use and versatile. I'm making wedding cake plates with it this time around So I thought I would give you a sneak peek since they are not quite finished. I still have to embellish but...

...so far so good. This is the tallest of the 7 plates. It will be for the topper cake that they will cut.

Etchall is Excellent!!!

Happy Friday to all!

As a member of Angela Holt's Design team we were each sent a package of Etchall products to try. I've been wanting to try it because I am going to create some items for the wedding that are etched glass so this was an awesome opportunity for me! This product is amazingly reasonable as you can scrape it back into the container when you are done and use it again. One bottle will last a really long time!

We were sent some of the crème and some of the dipping liquid. For the project I'm showing you today I used the Etchall etching crème.

Voila! a new wine glass for Halloween in less than an hour.














The first step was to clean the glass with alcohol so there was nothing to stop the stencil from stitcking or blocking the crème from working. After it was clean, I punched some self stick vinyl with Martha Stewart dripping paint punch. The trick was I used the negative side instead so that I could make the drips etched. When it was adhered completely, I placed the crème on the area I wanted etched. Using the squeegee available from the Etchall site I spread a good thick layer, kind of like glazed cake thickness, then let it sit for 15 minutes, after that I wiped it off. I rinsed it next because I wanted to add the red over the etching. I took a red permanent marker and colored in the edges of the drips for that bloody look.

Next I cut apart a set of vampire teeth and adhered them to the cup using E6000 glue and let that dry. When it was dry I added glossy accents in the cavities of the teeth so that nothing would get caught in them while using the glass. I placed the gems for the words by writing each letter in glue.

Finally, I made a cape for the cup. I used some wide wired ribbon and folded then glued it into the shape I wanted leaving front flaps for attaching. Next I made the bow tie out of some white crinkled seam binding from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I took a child's bat ring, cut off the ring part and attached it to the center of the bow tie. The bow tie was glued to one side of the cape flap and then I fashioned a hook and eye out of floral wire, placing the hook on the opposite cape flap and the eye on the end of the bow. Lastly I attached red gems to the back of the cape and the bats eyes.
